An entirely fictitious birthday story. All events, quotations, organisations and sources below are invented.

Leanne has supposedly seized control of the entirely imaginary Ministry of Glamour after walking into a room and immediately improving its sparkle rating. The previous minister, a tired glitter curtain, offered no resistance and has retired to a comfortable cupboard.

Her first fictional decree was swift: bows should be worn with confidence, earrings should have ambition, and anyone saying “Is this a bit much?” must add one more accessory before asking again. The Association of Things That Catch the Light, which does not exist, welcomed the policy.

Trouble began when a disco ball filed an imaginary grievance, claiming Leanne was “doing its job without even rotating”. Our reporter sought a comment, but the ball would only reflect questions back. Relations improved after it was assured there was enough limelight for everyone.

In a statement invented entirely by this newspaper, Leanne announced: “I’m here to make sure nobody leaves without a good time.” The newsroom applauded, then spent twenty minutes trying to remove a sequinned jacket from the office printer.

Her alleged five-point plan includes bigger smiles, better choruses, no apologies for enthusiastic dancing, emergency sparkle supplies and a standing ovation for Penny. Budget estimates were written on a napkin and immediately mistaken for a request to play another song.

No ministry has changed hands and no decorative lighting has lost its job. This is a loving piece of birthday nonsense. Leanne’s only official assignment is the same as everyone else’s: enjoy the evening and help make Penny’s sixtieth one to remember.
